Tonello between Milan and Hangzhou: two events, one shared vision
JournalTwo landmark events for the denim world have just come to a close, and Tonello was there, bringing its signature blend of innovative energy and visionary spirit.
From May 21 to 23, we took our ideas and technologies to two cities on opposite sides of the globe: Milan, for Denim Première Vision, and Hangzhou, for Kingpins China.
Milan: an open-air laboratory
In the heart of Italy’s design capital, we transformed our exhibition space into a fully functioning dye lab.
Our live workshop captured the attention of countless visitors, eager to experience firsthand the capabilities of our G1 Lab, the smallest machine in the Tonello family, yet one of the most versatile and efficient.
Thanks to our Wake technology, we carried out natural dyeing processes using plant-based and discarded materials -such as dried flowers, berries, and roots- proving that true beauty can emerge from mindful, responsible choices.
Framing the experience was the Sulfur Essence collection, offering a glimpse into the chromatic and expressive potential of sulfur and indigo-based dyeing. This creative exploration was made possible by DyeMate, our proprietary garment-dyeing system for indigo, which is redefining both aesthetic and production standards across the industry.
One of the most engaging moments took place on May 22, when Marco Visentin – Fashion Designer and Laser Specialist at Tonello – took to the stage of the Pitch Area with his presentation Where Indigo Wanders. A multisensory journey through the indigo universe, where tradition, experimentation, and creative awareness came together in a compelling narrative.
Hangzhou: where technical innovation meets material poetry
At the same time, on the other side of the world, we unveiled the latest chapter of our Laundry (R)Evolution. At Kingpins China in Hangzhou, we introduced our next-generation high-efficiency dryers, developed entirely in-house at Tonello. These systems are designed to deliver top-level performance while significantly reducing energy consumption.
But innovation didn’t stop at engineering. At the very entrance of the show, the DENIM RENAISSANCE: The Beauty of Time installation welcomed visitors into a narrative space where time and matter intertwined. This special collection celebrated denim as a living artifact shaped by nature, crafted by human hands, and poetically transformed by the passage of time.
Two events, one direction
Our simultaneous presence in Milan and Hangzhou was far more than a dual showcase. It was a tangible expression of a global vision: a way to reaffirm, in two languages and two cultures, that true innovation stems from purposeful actions, shared ideas, and technologies designed to respect the world we live in.
Our journey doesn’t stop here. But if the future of denim has a point of departure, then over the past few days, we’ve drawn its first new trajectory, together.
