Chiara Mainardi
JournalThe value of a brand, of a technology, of a business idea and of a product is determined by the value of the people who think, design, realize.
That’s why in Tonello we invest in people, we listen to them, we dedicate time and put them at the center of everything. Because they are the heart of the company.
It’s time for another episode of #MadeByPeople, which will see Tonello’s Laser Designer Chiara Mainardi as the protagonist.
How long have you worked at Tonello and what role do you play there?
I’ve been working for Tonello for just over a year. My role within the Research Center is that of Laser Designer.
I am both a technical and commercial figure, which means that I am not limited just to following the customers’ developments and samples, but I also offer them remote and on-site support and assistance. Being a laser designer, I also devote myself to creating new designs.
In just a few words, tell us about your story in Tonello.
I came from a working atmosphere that was completely different, monotonous, and with no prospects for growth. Here I have the opportunity to learn new things every day, experimenting and testing my skills. My job is not simple, but since it’s a positive atmosphere I’m able to work well and quietly.
What does your work mean to you?
At this moment in my life, it’s the most important thing for me. I’m yound and now I don’t have any other priorities: I’m trying to do my best, giving all I can to grow, and perfect my skills.
You who have been here for a short time, how does the company look to you?
Well, on the one hand, it’s a family company that grows and advances, while preserving its origins.
On the other hand, it’s an international reality that knows how to keep up with the times, and because of this is acknowledged as a world leader in the production of garment treating technologies.
How is your relationship with your colleagues?
I live my relationships rather well, we are all very close in both the work and personal spheres. We all get along very well, even if sometimes there are tensions or occasional disagreements. I have to say that even while doing our jobs, we still have fun, … and not just a little!
Is "teamwork" a dream or reality? Does it work?
As far as I am concerned, the team work is reality. Without the help of my colleagues, learning to use the Laser would have been much more difficult. They have proved their helpfulness from the very beginning, giving priority to my training even though they all had their own urgent projects to work on.
What was the most exciting moment in your history at Tonello? What was the most difficult one?
Without a doubt, the most difficult moment was at the Christmas Dinner. No one had warned me that all the new employees would be called up to the stage to be welcomed to the company. They had us line up, and there I was, the only woman in the middle of twenty men, and if that wasn’t enough, I was wearing a very form-fitting dress. I introduced myself to the public and managed pretty well, but it was still rather embarrassing!
On the contrary, leaving on a new trip is always exciting, particularly if I’m in the company of Fabio Fanton, Head of the Service Department. He is so nice, and his laughter is contagious!
What do you think are the Tonello’s greatest strengths?
The strong point is in the image that Tonello has on a worldwide level, but also in the fact that competent, courageous, and motivated people work in the company.
The risk is in not giving the right space to young people: the perfect balance lies in knowing how to combine the revolutionary ideas of newcomers, with the experience of those who have been working here longer.
What do the words sustainability and reliability mean to you? Of the different company values, which one do you relate to the most?
Sustainability is being able to create something able to excel at an innovative level, but with full respect for nature. Reliability is being consistent with what is said and what is done, respecting the promises and commitments made.
People, and their ability to create a team, and create a positive atmosphere where they can work in peace.
